Several VERIFY viewers asked if the post was true.
THE QUESTION
Is open carry now allowed in Disney World?
THE SOURCES
THE ANSWER
No, open carry is not allowed in Disney World. The claim originates from a satirical website.
WHAT WE FOUND
The site Mouse Trap News published on Jan. 10, 2024, that Disney World now allows open carry of guns in their parks.
A corresponding post on the site’s TikTok account – with a photo of what appears to be a man with a gun in front of the Magic Kingdom castle – has amassed hundreds of thousands of views and likes.
But according to the site itself, the information is fake.
Mouse Trap News describes itself as the “world’s best satire site,” where readers “can be assured that anything you read [on the site] is not true, real, or accurate, but it is fun.”
The site has previously published satirical reports that have gone viral about Disney lowering the drinking age on its EPCOT property and Cinderella’s castle being demolished.
VERIFY reviewed Disney World’s resort property rules on its website. Firearms, ammunition, knives, and weapons of any kind are the first things listed under prohibited items.
Also, Florida is not an open carry state, according to the U.S. Concealed Carry Association. However, permitless concealed carry is legal as of July 1, 2023.
