WHAT WE FOUND

There is a proposed settlement worth up to $15 million involving Bath & Body Works and Victoria’s Secret. Customers alleged both companies violated the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act

The Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act, passed in 2003, puts in place a variety of protections for consumers using credit or debit cards. The act includes the requirement that receipts not display more than the last five digits of a card number.

A lawsuit was filed against Bath & Body Works and Victoria’s Secret for displaying more than the last five digits of debit or credit card numbers on receipts. Both companies were previously under the same parent company before splitting up in 2021

Bath & Body Works and Victoria’s Secret agreed to a settlement to address the case.

To be eligible for the settlement, customers must have made a purchase at Bath & Body Works, Victoria’s Secret or Victoria Secret’s PINK between May 10, 2021 and Aug. 8, 2021 and received a printed receipt that showed more than five digits of their credit card number. Online purchases or purchases with digital receipts are not eligible.

Eligible customers will receive a voucher of up to $15, which can be used for any single purchase at a Bath & Body Works or Victoria’s Secret store, depending on where they shopped. Customers can only receive one voucher per store, regardless of how many purchases were made during the time period.

Claims can be filed on the official settlement website. The deadline to file a claim is July 16, 2024.

Eligible customers who do not file a claim but used My Bath & Body Works Rewards or a Victoria’s Secret branded credit or debit card to make their purchase will automatically receive a $5 voucher via email.

The settlement must be approved by the court before payments can be sent out. The final approval hearing is currently scheduled for Oct. 24, 2024.
