CLEVELAND, Ohio -- We caught up with #R.A.K.E.'s Ricky Smith at Barley House about noon Tuesday, where he was paying the lunch tabs for people he didn't even know.

In case you didn't know it, today Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson joined Greater Clevelander Ricky Smith in proclaiming Feb. 17 as Random Acts of Kindness Everywhere (R.A.K.E.) Day in Cleveland.

R.A.K.E. was founded by Smith, a comedian who grew up in Warrensville and attended University School.

Smith has traveled across the country and used social media to promote random acts of kindness that strangers shared with him along the way.

Smith says R.A.K.E., less of an organization and more of a movement, encourages people to simply go do something nice for someone else.

The movement demonstrates the importance of being kind and of creating environments in workplaces, schools, civic venues and all areas of public gatherings where individuals work together to further kindness among themselves, their peers, and their community.
